Landing Parties of HMS Rambler and Doris, Simonstown. Boer War c.1899.
Photograph of the naval brigades of HMS Rambler and HMS Doris in the South African Naval Base of Simonstown, near Cape Town marching with rifles. A naval brigade commanded by Captain R C Prothero of HMS Doris supported the British Army in the Battle of Graspan, November 1899. The brigade also fought at the Battle of Magersfontein, which was less successful.
