Letters written from the world's first submarine aircraft carrier which sank in a tragic accident

George Estcourt trained at the shore establishment HMS Fisgard before serving on board the submarine K 26 in 1925. In 1930 he joined the submarine M2 which The Royal Navy had converted into the world's first submarine aircraft carrier. M2, however, was lost in tragic circumstances during January 1932, when it sank just off the coast of Portland, resulting in the death of its crew. The Navy endeavoured to salvage the wreck but bad weather meant that all attempts were unsuccessful. Sadly they never found George's body. The following letters were to be the last received by his wife Ethel.
