On the way to Australia
On the way to Australia the ships covered 2,300 miles, they passed Christmas island but were unable to land due to the weather.
The time during the journey was spent cleaning the ships ready for their arrival in Australia.

The first place that the squadron landed was Fremantle in Western Australia. The visit of the British Special Service Squadron (BSSS) was hugely popular and thousands of local people went to the harbour to see the ships arrive. This popularity continued where ever the ships went.
