New nuclear missiles carried on Royal Navy submarines
Britain's Trident programme is composed of submarine-launched ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads, carried onboard nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. The Navy introduced Trident I (C4) in 1979, before phasing it out in the 1990s and early 2000s. Trident II (D5), introduced in 1990, remains in operation until 2027.
