'Out in the Gulf then as a Fighter Controller my, I like to think, there's two Fighter Controllers we like to think we're actually with the ships primary weapons system. Which perhaps the helo might debate but basically what I was doing out there was talking to all the aircraft that were over the Persian Gulf, all the aircraft that were actually over the sea.
My primary job was to control the aircraft that were on combat air patrol. The Americans had constant __, called CAP Combat Air Patrol cover over the fleet, the fleet defence, and my job was to sit down in the operations room talking to the aircraft with my radar screen and with my computer, and basically to control him, to be his eyes and ears, to basically be the back seat pilot of that aircraft and__, I would, if there was any Iraqis came over, came out to attack us then it was my job to, to take that set of aircraft, that set of CAP and engage the enemy.'
