Medal facts -

  • Those who served in World War Two between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945 received the 1939 - 1945 Star.

  • Recipients still received the medal even if their service period ended early due to death or disability as a result of their service.

  • The award of a gallantry medal or a Mention in Despatches during the War also qualified a recipient for this medal.

  • Royal Navy personnel had to complete six months service afloat in active operational areas.

  • The ribbon has equal stripes of dark blue, red and light blue.
