Medal facts -

  • This medal is also known as the Allied War Medal.

  • It commemorated the victory of the Allied countries over the Central Powers.

  • Thirteen Allied nations adopted the same basic design and issued a Victory Medal to their own citizens.

  • Britain issued approximately 5 725 000 Victory medals.

  • Personnel who gained a Mention in Despatches between 4 August 1914 and 10 August 1920 wore an oak leaf on the medal's ribbon.

  • The medal is yellow bronze with a double rainbow ribbon.
