Joyce Cross Transcripts
Joyce Cross describing letters and parcels sent to her brother as a prisoner of war
Transcript: "I used to write lots of letters. I was always writing. I used to write to all my brothers. I used to write their friends, any servicemen I used to write a lot to. Now I was quite proud of the fact that I was the first one my brother had a letter from, it was after a few months. I didn’t know that until he came back home. From him we used to get the usual printed letters and a lot of it would be crossed out but we knew he was alright and the Red Cross parcels were a great boon and they used to go out to him. In the parcels would be things like for darning their socks, even the socks, balaclava helmets and scarves, all that sort of thing and some chocolate, some cake, fruit cake, he used to get."
