Iain Henderson on the readiness for war and his confidence in his ship’s fighting ability. (RNM)

Transcript: “We really had worked ourselves up to, I’d say, an extremely high level of proficiency both in those sort of protective measures and in all the warfare disciplines. And Commodore Craig was particularly keen on doing ‘table top tactics’ – this is where we would sort of consider our “What ifs” – you know; “What if they do this?”, “What if they do that?” And I really don’t think that any stone was left unturned. So, we really had good reason to feel extremely confident about anything. And I think that that was of great importance to me as the Captain, I didn’t feel that we really had a sort of weak underbelly. I really did feel that we were in with a darned good chance. I mean; I had an unshakable belief that London was going to go home in one piece.”
