Mabel's desperate search for news

Mabel Mulholland (RNM)
Mabel did not give up hope that Algernon might still be alive. Over a period of six months she wrote several times to the British Red Cross asking for information about her husband.
In a letter, dated 17 December 1941, from the Red Cross they explained that in the event that a German U-boat had picked up Algernon he would have been recorded as a prisoner of war and his name sent to the British authorities by the International Red Cross. Sadly, after this length of time, it was unlikely that they would obtain any further news about him.
