Land service
Often described as Britain's sea soldiers, the Royal Marines were involved in land actions from the declaration of war.
Again, the Royals were able to use and adapt their fighting skills for service ashore. Marines served on the continent in Brigades similar to Naval Brigades. Later in the war they used their naval gunnery skills to form Howitzer Brigades and operate the guns on Heavy Siege Trains.
